About the owner

John Wessels is a second generation German auto technician. He began his training while sitting in a high chair watching his father, George, repair Volkswagen’s in Chowchilla. With Wessels’ Tune Up Clinic being located in the families garage, John was exposed to the auto repair trade every day. He had is first VW rebuilt and restored by the age of fourteen and a half.

John skipped taking shop classes in High Scool while taking four years of college prep English, math and science. He received the Bank of America award for lab science his senior year. He then went to Merced Community College earning an AA degree in Auto Technology. He also earned certificates in Tune Up and Auto collision rebuild and repaint. He was awarded top student in his class for his field of study. While attending college John worked his way through at a couple of repair shops in Merced.

John  has been servicing European automobiles for over thirty years and has been an ASE Master technician since 1987. He has had an L1 Advanced certificate since 1997. He has been servicing Ferrari’s since October 2008. He has always excelled in difficult problem solving, often finding solutions when others have failed.

John’s realm of experience includes building and machining dozens of engines. This includes original restoration to class winning high performance.  Marques would include Volkswagen (air and water cooled), Porsche (356 to 930), Mercedes, BMW,  Ferrari (F40 and F355). He comprehends the theory of camshaft timing and knows how to measure and correct it. He has expertise in fuel systems ranging from multiple Weber carburetion to Bosch D, L Jetronic, CIS with Lambda and Motronic. In addition he has extensive experience with OBD II diagnosis and repair. He also excels in electrical and climate control systems diagnosis.

Using his experience John quickly learned and excelled in servicing Ferrari’s. With patience, being observant and immaculate attention to detail John has received high compliments from customers. After a major service on one F40 the owner stated the car never had run as well or as strong in the three years he had owned the car.

John has owned and operated his own business’ from 1990 to 2008. Now bringing his knowledge and experience to Oakhurst, CA. Feel free to stop by and say hello.
